Project OverviewEl Dorado and surrounding Union County serve as the regional center for South Arkansas. This position is supported by a strong healthcare sector (anchored by the Medical Center of South Arkansas), abundant retail amenities and vibrant downtown, and quality educational assets (South Arkansas Community College and El Dorado School District), as well as major corporate and industrial employers (e.g., Pilgrim?s Pride, Chemtura, Lion Oil, Anthony Forest Products, Murphy Oil, Teris, and Deltic Timber). The challenge is leveraging these existing assets to promote long-term economic vitality and prosperity for all Union County residents. Recognizing this challenge, the leadership of Union County is crafting an economic development strategic plan. The purpose of this plan is to prepare a vision for the area and identify strategies that will ensure its success. TIP Strategies, an Austin-based economic consulting firm, was hired by the Union County Industrial Board to assist in this process. The project will consist of several phases including an economic assessment of the county, the facilitation of visions and goals, and the formulation of strategies for supporting them. The work will culminate in the creation of a comprehensive set of strategies and an implementation plan to guide future economic development efforts in Union County. This web site is designed to keep you informed about upcoming events, provide copies of presentations and reports, and serve as a mechanism for additional public input. As a resident of Union County, your input on issues that will impact the future of the area is important. So, please take a moment and share your thoughts in the online survey.
